2012-13 Rating Sheet

The Educational Fund Grant Program for 2011-2012 and timetable of winners has been finalized. There will be 36 ($1000 each) grants awarded. Each district will be allocated six (6) grants provided the guidelines established in paragraph B below are followed. All grants must be for enrollment in an eligible Career or Technology Institution.

a. Each lodge may submit six (6) applications (regardless of gender) to the District Chairperson for judging.

b. Each district may submit a maximum of ten (10) applications to the Educational Fund Board for judging and selection. All applications must be from individuals planning on attending a Career or Technology Institution.

c. After six (6) winners in each district are selected, the remaining applications will be added to an at-large pool. Any grants forfeited by a district will be added to the at-large pool.

In order to save time and hold down cost EFG applications will be available on line only at the Ohio Elks Association web-site. District Chairpersons should inform Lodges and anyone interested that these applications can be downloaded easily at the state web-site.

Please emphasize to your Lodges that these grants are available to anyone who has completed high school, or its equivalent, and not just high school seniors. Exalted Rulers and Sdiolship Chairpersons should make a special effort to get applications to Career or Technology Institutions in their areas as well as all area high schools. Also, extensively advertise the program within your Lodge's jurisdictional area and make arrangements for persons who are not students to obtain the application at a specific location, such as the lodge itself.

Important items to keep in mind:

a. Applications to be submitted may be original or reproduced.

b. Restrictions have been removed concerning part-time study, especially for applicants holding full-time jobs.

c. Be sure applications are completed fully and signed by the aoolicant and Lodge submitting the aovlication.

d. Contact last years first time winners and inform them that they may apply for an award p second time.

e. Applications not sent on for additional judging do not have to be returned to the applicant and may be destroyed by lodge or district chairpersons.

g. The Ohio Elks Association will release Educational Fund Grant money won by applicants during the month of October 2012.

All lodge and district chairpersons should familiarize themselves with the general instructions contained in the application, as well as the grading instrument that is used as there have been changes made not only in the application but in the grading sheets as well.
They should also impress upon the applicants the necessity of following all instructions carefully and fully.

In order to have the names of the winners announced in time for the school award assemblies and banquets at the conclusion of the school year, the following schedule must be adhered to with no exceptions.

February 3, 2012 - Applications due in the hands of the Lodge Scholarship Chairperson

February 17, 2012 - Lodge selections due in the hands of the District Chairperson.

March 2, 2012 - District selections due in the hands of the Educational Fund Board.

April 2012 - Award winners announced by the Educational Fund Board.
